Crisis Clinic. (http://crisis-clinic.org/) The Crisis Clinic provides telephone support to people in emotional crisis, especially people who are suicidal.

All Souls can support this service in several ways:

• Volunteer as a counselor
• Volunteer to assist the center by cleaning the facilities (which we have scheduled on March 13 at 9:30 AM)
• Financial donations 

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is America's largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness. (http://www.nami.org/)

All Souls will be collected donations to NAMI during January. Please contribute in the lobby. In addition, All Souls will provide facilities for a NAMI Peer-to-Peer class beginning February 10th.

We Respond To The Cry of the Poor. We the citizens of Thurston County who are invested in Responding to the Cry of the Poor, vision together what Thurston County will be like without homelessness. As people of faith, we can join together and lean into the enormous challenges in the pro-active effort to dare to end homelessness in Thurston County. Our Charity of the Month for December will be to donate items needed by the homeless community.

Other ways we can help:

• Housing Advocates are needed to assist Camp Quixote residents and others to connect to community resources. Training is provided.
• Meal Coordinator is needed to coordinate meal delivery to Camp Quixote. This person communicates with camp leadership and community food donors, and helps develop a good system for food scheduling and delivery. Training is provided.

The Family Support Center is hoping to end family homelessness this holiday season.

  • Register to sponsor a homeless family! Join together with your friends, family, coworkers, or service group to raise funds for a family. Hold an office party, raffle, bake sale or fundraiser of your choice and donate the money to provide your sponsored family with the gift of a worm home instead of material presents this holiday season.

Charity of the Month for November: the YWCA of Olympia OTHER BANK program.

The YWCA of Olympia is the only agency in the South Puget Sound area that provides a comprehensive distribution of personal and household hygiene and cleaning supplies to women, men, and their families in Thurston, Mason, and Lewis counties. The program distributes the following items to hundreds of low-income people every week:

Each year, The Other Bank provides approximately 15,000 individuals with these hygiene supplies. None of these items can be purchased with food stamps.

We will be collecting these very necessary items all through the month of November, The next time you are in the grocery store, consider buying an extra toothbrush, toothpaste or some of the other items listed. Working together we can make a difference.
 

Charity of the Month. Our Charity for October is the Spina Bifida Association of Washington State

October is Disabilities Awareness Month. Spina Bifida is the most common permanently disabling birth defect in the United States. It can result in varying degrees of paralysis, bowel and bladder complications, water on the brain (hydrocephalus) and learning difficulties. For a woman who might become pregnant, taking Folic Acid (a B vitamin) will reduce the risk of a child born with Spina Bifida or another neural tube defect by as much as 70%.

We are asking people to donate $1 or more for the organization. In return, you get a cute little ghost for your donation. It can be displayed at the church, Parent2Parent, gym, senior center or tavern. Your donation helps SBAWS reach out to those with Spina Bifida and take the message of how we can prevent this birth defect to women of child-bearing age. Would you like to contribute?
